Time-capsule midcentury ranch home near Chicago lists for $770k

This Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired home in the suburbs of Chicago is brimming with midcentury features.

On the market via Jameson Sotheby’s International Realty for $770,000, 65 Timberlake Parkway was built in 1966 and borrows some of Lloyd Wright’s best design ideas including a flowing floor plan, voluminous spaces, and extensive use of floor-to-ceiling glass.

The six-bedroom Barrington property’s Great Room takes a starring role: its vaulted timber ceiling is crossed with exposed beams, and the colossal space is divided informally by a raw brick wall inset with a double-sided fireplace to create three separate seating areas.

Original features inside the 3,982 sq ft home include hardwood floors, which hone the 1960s vibe, while the kitchen has a boomerang-shaped breakfast bar that seats eight.

Throughout, glass walls look out onto the midcentury property’s wooded surrounds, and there are a number of outside decks and terraces for drinking in the views. The modernist house sits on its own 1.42-acre secluded plot, but it’s part of a community of homes with access to a 46-acre lake, private beach and park.
